YouTube has introduced a new subscription plan called Premium Lite. This is one of the most affordable ways to enjoy most videos on YouTube without ads on the platform. Currently, it is available as a trial in the US for $7.99 (around Rs 695) per month.
However, over the next few weeks, it will also be available in Australia, Germany, and Thailand.
Since it is cheaper than the regular YouTube Premium plan, it comes with fewer features. It does not have YouTube Music, which means users can’t stream ad-free music and music videos. Users can still listen to tracks with ads, but they won’t get access to features such as background play or downloading music for offline listening.
As YouTube has clarified, while the Premium Lite plan aims to provide an ad-free experience for ‘most’ videos, certain exceptions apply. Ads might also still appear on shorts and while browsing or searching for content, according to YouTube. Reports about this affordable subscription first came out last month.
