Google has teamed up with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to bring quality education to even the far corners of India.
In this collaboration, NCERT will launch multiple YouTube channels in 29 Indian languages, focusing on the curriculum for grades 1 to 12, over the coming months.
The initiative will not only just create content in various local languages but will also include Sign language. It will offer educational content in engaging and accessible formats to empower students. It will also empower parents and teachers across the country.
The initiative will primarily focus on remote areas to raise awareness about the importance of education, encouraging families in rural communities to prioritize their children’s learning and development.
The tech giant has also announced the collaboration with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) to roll out Credentialled Courses. These courses lead to professional or vocational qualifications that can be earned through academic or non-academic means.
Currently, NPTEL offers around 50 credentialed courses on various subjects, such as pure sciences, literature, sports psychology, and rocket propulsion. Under this initiative, anyone outside the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) system will be able to enroll in courses through NPTEL’s YouTube channels.
After that, they can complete the online certification on the NPTEL-SWAYAM portal and get a certificate from the IITs. In the coming months, additional courses will be introduced to further enhance learning opportunities.
