Spotify is set to roll out several new features to enhance the audiobook experience for premium users.
As per the blog post, the music-streaming platform is testing a new ‘Video Clips’ feature that will allow select authors and publishers to submit a short video about a particular title. This can be a snippet from an interview, a behind-the-scenes video from the audio recording session, a video message from the author, or something else.
This gives a quick preview of an audiobook to users before they start listening to an audiobook. It’s like the cover of the audiobook, providing a fun way for users to discover and decide which audiobook to pick.
This feature matches Spotify’s recent focus on adding more video content to its platform.
The other feature is the ‘Author pages’, currently in pilot mode with a select number of authors. It is a dedicated profile for audiobook authors that contains biographical information about their backgrounds and works.
It will bring together all the books by an author in one place, making it easier for users to explore an author’s previous works as well as new releases on Spotify’s platform.
The other interesting feature the company is testing is ‘Follow-Along.’ It will allow users to see time-synchronized illustrations, photos, and graphics as they listen to an audiobook. This will be available in the ‘extras’ section of the audiobook.
