Apple will soon launch its second-generation AirTag. Amid its launch, a lot of speculation has been surfaced online over the past few weeks. It is said that AirTag 2, or the second-generation AirTag, will come with some significant improvements.
As per the Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman report, the upcoming AirTag 2 will have a much longer tracking range, making it easier to find lost items. According to the report, AirTag 2 will feature a second-generation ultrawide-band (UWB) chip.
The second-generation UWB chip was introduced in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 last year. The new chip provides up to three times the tracking range of the original UWB chip used in the first-generation AirTag.
The second-generation AirTag is expected to offer a tracking range of around 60 meters, while the current AirTag can track items within a range of approximately 10 to 30 meters.
The upcoming device with the codenamed B589 is expected to debut on the market in mid-2025. As the current model faced some issues with privacy and was misused by stalkers for stalking, keeping this in mind, this time the next-generation AirTag will come with improved security, making it more difficult for anyone to remove speakers from the tracker, according to Bloomberg’s Gurman.
