Apple has increased the price of its monthly AppleCare+ subscription for all iPhone models in the US. This price hike applies to both Standard and Theft and Loss plans. However, it does not extend to other Apple devices such as iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. This move comes amid rumors about the company’s plans to remove the two- and three-year subscription plans and introduce monthly and yearly plans.
Previously, the AppleCare+ Standard plan for iPhone 16 cost $7.99 (about Rs 696) per month in the US, which was included in the Theft and Loss plan. With 50 cents hike, it now costs $8.49 (about Rs 740). The same price hike applies to the iPhone 16 Pro models whose AppleCare+ subscription now starts at $10.49 (about Rs. 914), up from $9.99 (about Rs 870).
This plan increases hardware repair coverage for iPhones and other Apple devices from one year to two years. It also offers accidental damage protection and 90 days of complimentary technical support.
The price hike will only be applicable to subscription fees. It is not applicable to service charges or deductibles, which start at $29 (about Rs 2,613) for screen or back glass damage on the iPhone. This change aligns with Apple’s plan to shift from one-time purchases to a subscription-based model.
As per the report, the company will soon stop offering upfront Applecare+ purchases for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices at its stores. At present, users can buy AppleCare+ with a new device or within a limited time after purchase, but this might soon removed.
Customers will only be able to get a longer AppleCare+ plan if they buy the device directly from the Apple online store and only at the time of purchase.
It is also said that the company may remove the option to purchase the subscription through the device. Users will then only get to choose between monthly or annual plans. Customers will only be able to get a longer AppleCare+ plan if they buy the device directly from the Apple online store and only at the time of purchase.
