Call of Duty 2025 could still be available on older consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One, as per the report. The update comes from CharlieIntel, a trusted source for Call of Duty news, which says the developers are developing the game for these previous-generation consoles based on its sources.
“Call of Duty 2025 could still release on PS4 and Xbox One, per sources. Supporting last-gen in 2025 is a wild decision, but the game is in development for the old consoles from what we’ve heard,” CharlieIntel wrote on X ( formerly known as Twitter).
Activision hasn’t yet confirmed the next Call of Duty game for 2025. However, it’s likely to support PS4 and Xbox One since many players still use these older consoles.
As of August 2024, the PS4 has sold over 117 million units. Sony reported last year that around 49 million users still use the PS4 every month, making up half of all active PlayStation users. The Xbox One has sold around 58 million units, but the number of monthly active user count is unclear.
As many users still use the old consoles, launching the next Call of Duty on those platforms will help the game reach more people. The leaks from a focus group last year suggest that the game is in a development state. As per the reports, it will be a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 and take place in 2035, continuing the story from the 2012 game.
