According to Android Authority’s report, the new Gemini AI assistant feature will be able to handle calls and messages, even if the phone is locked.

As per the screenshot shared by Android Authority, a new option titled ‘Make Calls and Send Messages Without Unlocking’ has appeared in the lock screen menu under Gemini’s Settings.
Users can make calls and send texts without unlocking their devices by enabling this option.
However, incoming texts containing personal content will still require the device to be unlocked for viewing.
Google Assistant already has this feature. But this new feature reportedly extends the capability to the AI-powered virtual assistant as well.

According to the report, there could be some UI changes, including a more minimal floating overlay. As you input text into the box, it will expand vertically to ensure all text remains visible.
Additionally, the extensions page of the Gemini AI assistant will undergo a minor redesign. Instead of displaying all extensions in one space, the new layout will reportedly organise them into different categories such as Communication, Device Control, Travel, Media, and Productivity.
Android Authority spotted these new features in the Google app beta version 15.42.30.28.arm64. The rollout timeline for these features has not yet been confirmed.
