Google Photos is rolling out its new feature, ‘Ask Photos,’ to a limited number of users in the U.S. It was first introduced during the Google I/O event back in May.
This AI-powered tool, driven by Google’s Gemini technology, facilitates the restoration of the photos and also allows users to manage their photos efficiently.
With this feature, users can search for specific images by typing conversational queries. Users can ask detailed questions or general prompts to help the AI find images from their cloud storage. If the AI fails to find the image, users can ask follow-up questions to help the AI locate the image.
This innovation will replace the traditional search tab in the Google Photos app. The Google Photos feature is available on both Android and iOS devices. The people who joined the waitlist are now gaining access to Ask Photos.
According to reports, Google emphasises that protecting user privacy comes first. Any questions posed using the Ask Photos function will not be utilized for advertising. People might evaluate some of the prompts, but only after the user’s account has been disconnected.
The feature applies several data processing algorithms such as image-to-text description, face recognition, and data categorisation based on location and time. This makes such searches more meaningful, for example, searching for photos from a friend’s trip or celebration on such and such dates.
How To Use
To use this feature, users must have the latest version of the Google Photos app on their device.
To get started, sign in with Google Account > Look at the bottom right corner for the Ask Photos feature > Tap the icon and ask your queries.
After processing your request, the AI will show you the appropriate images.
