In a significant step toward improving telecom accessibility, security, and empowerment across India, Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled a series of citizen-centric initiatives.
The launch of the ‘Sanchar Saathi Mobile App,’ National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0, and the inauguration of the Intra Circle Roaming facility at DBN Funded 4G Mobile Sites were among the event’s key highlights.
The app is a user-friendly platform that is made to fortify telecom security and empower citizens.
The app is available on both iOS and Android. It offers users critical tools that help them to secure their telecom resources and combat telecom fraud. Talking about the key features of the app, it offers several security functionalities. The features include:
- Chakshu – Reporting Suspected Fraud Communications (SFC): Users can report suspected calls and SMS using the app and directly from mobile phone logs.
- Know Mobile Connections in Your Name: Citizens can identify and manage all mobile connections issued in their name, ensuring no unauthorized usage.
- Blocking Your Lost/Stolen Mobile Handset: Lost or stolen mobile devices can be swiftly blocked, traced, and recovered.
- Know Mobile Handset Genuineness: The app offers an easy way to verify the authenticity of mobile handsets, ensuring users purchase genuine devices.
With over 90 crore smartphone users in the country, the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App aims to ensure that every individual has access to these vital services with just a few taps on their smartphone. The Union Minister launched the National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 by unveiling its vision document.
According to the Union Minister of Communications, NBM 2.0 builds on the success of NBM 1.0, which saw the establishment of almost 8 lakh towers.
NBM 2.0 promises to revolutionize every sector, from e-governance to disaster management, and it has the potential to bring about positive changes across the country.
At the event, the Union Minister also unveiled Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites.
ICR lets users of different telecom service providers (TSPs) access 4G services from a single DBN-funded tower instead of requiring separate towers for each TSP.
Therefore, more subscribers benefit from a lower CAPEX investment from the operators and government. This initiative promises seamless 4G connectivity for over 35,400 rural and remote villages served by approximately 27,000 towers.
