Indian Railways will soon launch a comprehensive mobile application ‘super app’ by the end of December.
This application will serve as a one-stop solution for users by combining various railway services in one platform. The app will allow users to book tickets, purchase platform passes, and monitor train schedules all in one place.
As per the report of Economic Times reports, the application is developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), and it will be functioning in conjunction with Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) systems.
Railways have several official apps and websites for their services, which are used by users including IRCTC Rail Connect for booking tickets, modification, and cancellation, IRCTC eCatering Food on Track for getting food delivered to train seats, Rail Madad for complaints and feedback, UTS for booking unreserved train tickets.
“IRCTC will continue to serve as the interface between CRIS and passengers purchasing train tickets. Integration of the planned super app and IRCTC is underway,” said an official, as per the Economic Times reports.
The IRCTC Rail Connect holds the rights for train ticket booking. The third-party ticket booking apps also depend on the IRCTC for ticket booking. With more than 100 million downloads, IRCTC is one of the most utilized and downloaded railway apps.
This ‘super app’ is expected to generate additional revenue, with IRCTC improving its technical infrastructure to support it, as per the reports.
