Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Mobile Platform. It promises to offer better performance, longer battery life, and AI-powered features for mid-range smartphones.
The new chipset offers up to 11% better CPU performance, 29% improved GPU capabilities, and 12% power savings, making it a great option for gamers, content creators, and professionals.
This new chipset will power some upcoming brands’ smartphones, such as realme, OPPO, and honor. These devices are expected to launch in the next few months.
This is the first chipset in the series to be made using TSMC’s 4nm technology. Previously, Qualcomm used Samsung’s 4nm process.
It is also the first processor in the series to use ARMv9-based CPU cores. It features a Cortex-A720 main core running at 2.3GHz, three A720 performance cores at 2.2GHz, and four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 2.3GHz.
The chipset also gets a Kyro series CPU, an Adreno GPU for graphics, and a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU for AI tasks. However, the company hasn’t revealed details about the Adreno GPU.
The chipset also has the Qualcomm AI Engine, which supports INT4 for the first time in this series. This helps devices process AI tasks faster while using less RAM.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor features triple 12-bit ISPs that will support cameras up to 200 MP. It also supports 4K HDR video recording at 30 fps. Additionally, it supports HDR10, HLG, and 10-bit HEIF formats.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 features full-HD+ (1080+) resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate. It can support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM at 3,200MHz. It also supports UFS 3.1 for storage. It offers a 5G modem with a speed of up to 2.9 Gbps, supporting both sub-6 GHz and mmWave. It also offers Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive, GPS with triple-frequency positioning, and USB Type-C 3.1.
