Qualcomm has introduced three new Snapdragon G series chips for handheld gaming consoles including the top-tier Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. The mid-range Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 offers Wi-Fi 7 support, just like the high-end model, and is built for powerful gaming devices. For budget-friendly cloud gaming, the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 offers 1080p gaming at 120fps, ensuring smooth gameplay.
Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 Key Specifications
The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 is an eight-core gaming chip with one prime core, five performance cores, and two efficiency cores. It has an Adreno A32 GPU. It is the first Snapdragon G series processor to support ray tracing and Lumen on Unreal Engine 5 for better graphics.
Devices with the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip can feature Quad HD+ displays with a 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. As per the company, the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 offers a 30% better GPU performance and 28% better CPU performance compared to the previous Snapdragon G3x Gen 2.
Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 & Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 Key Specifications
The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 are octa-core chips. Both are made for midrange and entry-level gaming devices. The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 has one less performance core and one extra efficiency core than its more powerful version, with an Adreno A22 GPU. The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 features two performance cores, six efficiency cores, and an Adreno A12 GPU.
The devices with the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 can support 144Hz Quad HD+ displays. The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 can have 1080p screens with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 features Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, while the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 has the same connectivity as the high-end Snapdragon G3 Gen 3.
Availability
As per Qualcomm, Ayaneo, OneXSugar, and Retroid Pocket will launch new consoles with these chips in the coming weeks. Both the Ayaneo Pocket S2 and OneXSugar Sugar 1 will come with a Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip, whereas the Retroid Pocket Classic will feature the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor.
