As per reports, Samsung has been developing its Smart Glasses in collaboration with Google and it may be powered by a Qualcomm chipset.
This was further verified by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, who in an interview with CNBC, stated that the company is working with Samsung and Google to explore a “mixed-reality set of glasses linked to a smartphone — taking a different approach from Apple, which launched a larger headset.”
Samsung made an announcement last year regarding the development of a mixed-reality headset while teaming up with Google.
In the Interview, Amon stated, “It’s going to be a new product, it’s going to be a new experience.” She further added, “But what I expect to come out of this partnership, I want everyone that has a phone to go buy companion glasses to go along with it.”
In the interview, Amon talked highly about Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. These glasses look like regular glasses but can be wirelessly linked to a smartphone and also have an in-built camera. They also come with a voice assistant powered by Meta’s Llama artificial intelligence model.
However, to take a step ahead, Qualcomm has decided to make ‘mixed reality’ a key target area. With this, the tech giants want to diversify their business model beyond smartphones.
Though no great details were shared, Amon did hint that Google, Samsung, and Qualcomm’s smart glasses would be a different approach from Apple’s Vision Pro, a mixed-reality headset launched this year.
Samsung and Google are yet to share their part on the topic and it would be great to see yet another tech device entering the market.
