Qualcomm has quietly launched a new variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite with seven cores.
Last year, the company launched its Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile chipset in October, which now powers flagship devices from brands such as Realme and OnePlus.
This new version comes with the same clock speeds as the original but uses a 2+5 setup for its Prime and Performance cores. The company listed the updated version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with part number SM8750-3-AB on its website.
It comes with seven CPU cores, with two Prime cores clocked at up to 4.32 GHz and five Performance cores clocked at up to 3.53 GHz. However, it has one less performance core than the original Snapdragon 8 Elite.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform, introduced last October (SM8750-AB), comes with an eight-core CPU configuration, comprising two Prime cores with speeds of up to 4.32GHz and six Performance cores running at up to 3.53GHz.
Other specifications of the new chipset are similar. It is also made on a 3-nanometer fabrication process. It incorporates the chipmaker’s Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF system. It is said that it costs less compared to the original octa-core version.
Smartphone manufacturers are anticipated to incorporate the seven-core Snapdragon 8 Elite into their upcoming devices soon. It will be a more cost-effective option for smartphone manufacturers for their lower-volume flagships. However, Qualcomm hasn’t yet announced which smartphone brands will be the first to equip the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
