Google is testing a latest AI feature dubbed as News Brief for Google TV. This feature is powered by Gemini, which summarizes the day’s top news headlines and displays them for users. It was first demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 earlier this month.
The smart TV operating system will soon integrate several other AI features like conversational searches and AI-generated screensavers. Only selected users will get the access to News Brief during its testing phase.
A Google Community Manager announced on a support page that the AI-powered News Brief feature will soon be available for some selected users in the US. It will appear as a new option on the For You page of Google TV.
The News Brief analyses the top news stories throughout the day and creates short narrated summaries for quick viewing. The summaries will be followed by related YouTube videos from trusted news sources, but Google did not mention any publications or channels.
Google stated that news summaries created using Gemini models and reviewed by humans. The company didn’t reveal specific model names but noted that the summaries would be updated multiple times daily.
While Google did not clarify how it sources the information for these news stories, it is said that the content will be taken from YouTube videos. The company also did not explain whether the stories would be personalized based on users’ content viewing history or search activity. The company has also provided users a way to give their feedback on the features.
To provide feedback on the feature, users can press the Google Assistant or microphone button on their remote, say ‘Send feedback,’ and follow the on-screen instructions. Users can also type their feedback by using their smartphones as keyboards.
The company has given no further details about personalization or sourcing methods.
