Microsoft has announced that by the end of this year, it will end the support for Mail, Calendar, and People apps for Windows.
After December 31, 2024, users will be unable to send and receive email using Windows Mail and Calendar. However, any local emails, calendar events, and contacts stored in Mail, Calendar, and People will remain exportable.
As per the blog post of Microsoft, they are moving the existing users of these apps to the new Outlook for Windows.
The company also mentioned that the new Outlook supports most email accounts, including Outlook, Hotmail, work, and school accounts.
Further, the company mentioned that it also supports third-party accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud, and other third-party accounts connecting through IMAP.
There are some limitations as well. The new Outlook offers limited support for public folders. If a user is completely dependent on a public folder, they should continue using the classic Outlook for Window.
Outlook for Windows was in preview until August, when Microsoft launched it for all users. It is pre-installed on Windows devices with Windows 11, version 23H2 or higher. After signing in, Outlook will open with the account set as the default for sending emails.
It brings new features with a modern and simplified design to the Windows 11 PC. The app lets users view all their accounts and calendars in one place. It comes with AI capabilities that help users write impactful, clearer, mistake-free emails.
