The ChatGPT search feature is now available for everyone without the need to sign up for the platform.
OpenAI announced this development on X (formerly known as Twitter). This allows users worldwide to utilize the AI-powered search tool to access real-time information from the web. For unregistered users, the feature will be powered by the GPT-4o AI model.

Users will see a globe icon next to the ‘Attach file’ icon in the ChatGPT text field. By clicking the globe icon, users can activate the web search mode, and the chatbot will use only web-based information to answer your questions.
The feature shows the source of information in two ways. A clickable icon highlights the source just after every sentence when information is used. Users will also see a list of clickable sources at the bottom of the response. Free-tier users don’t have a rate limit for this feature.
The company hasn’t imposed any rate limits for the ChatGPT Search feature for unregistered users. Free-tier users can also use the feature without limits, giving them unlimited access to real-time information.
