Sony India has announced that its PlayStation 5 Pro will not launch in some selected countries, which also includes India.
As per media reports, Sony explained the reason behind it as the PS5 Pro uses the 6GHz wireless band under IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), which is currently not authorized in India. For now, the upgraded console will not be available in India. Sony has already launched it globally yesterday (November 7).
Features of PS5 Pro
PS5 Pro debuted on the market with a significant advancement. Compared with PS5, its GPU features 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. With this upgrade, it allows up to 45% faster rendering, delivering a smoother gaming experience.
Ray-tracing is the latest advancement in the technology, which optimizes dynamic light reflection and refraction as well as a faster cast of rays up to two to three times faster than the current PS5 console, delivering richer visuals in supported games. It also features enhanced storage options. Sony introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
For all these advancements, WiFi 7 is needed. India hasn’t yet approved the frequency for commercial use. Wifi services are offered in the 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands in India.
The Indian regulatory limitations pose a setback for Indian gamers, who were eagerly awaiting the PS5 Pro.
