Telegram is all set to roll out new features with its first update of 2025. These new features include collectible gifts that can be transferred or re-sent to other users, the ability to send reactions to in-chat events, filters for message search, an in-app QR code scanner, and so much more, as per the blog post.
Collection Gifts
Gifts received on Telegram are now able to be upgraded to collectibles. Collectible gifts can be transferred to other users or sold on NFT marketplaces. When a user upgrades a gift, it unlocks a new appearance from custom variations designed by Telegram artists. It also gets a set of secondary traits, which includes a background color, icon, and number, ensuring every collectible gift is a unique work of art.
Additionally, users can also upgrade the gift before sending it to their friends and family. They’ll see the upgraded collectible artwork when they open it in the chat. Upgrading costs a few Telegram Stars, which helps cover blockchain fees.
Reactions for Services Messages
Service messages, which appear when someone joins the group, start video calls or sends gifts, now support reactions, allowing users to thank or welcome members in just two taps, as per the blog post.
Message Search Filters
The search bar in the chat list allows users to quickly find messages from any chat. In the ‘Chats’ tab, users can use filters to see results only from private chats, groups, or channels.
Verification from Third Parties
To provide transparency and make it easier for users to identify official accounts, Telegram allows public figures and organizations to get verified. The platform has taken a step further to improve this transparency; official third-party services are now able to assign extra verification icons to user accounts and chats, according to the blog post. A small logo appears next to the name if a user receives third-party verification.
Custom Emoji in Folder Names
Users can create customizable chat folders to help organize their conversations. Now, folder names can include custom emojis, allowing premium users to make their folders more fun by using icons instead of text.
QR Code Scanner
Opening links in your browser is now easier, as the in-app camera on Android and iOS automatically scans QR codes.
The company mentioned in its blog post that this is the 17th major update of 2024 but was delayed due to a lack of attention from Apple’s review team.
