WhatsApp is developing a new feature for its iOS app to make sharing music on status updates easier. A beta tracker spotted the feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS, allowing users to share Spotify music directly on their status.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a Spotify integration for status updates to roll out on future versions of the app.
The feature was spotted in WhatsApp Beta for iOS app version 25.8.10.72. According to the screenshots shared by the feature tracker, Meta’s instant messaging app will generate a preview with details like the song title, artist name, and album cover. It is also said that the feature may also include a ‘Play on Spotify’ link which allows users to open the song directly on Spotify. It is said that users will see a new ‘Status’ option in the share menu after the feature is released.
This update will make music sharing on WhatsApp similar to how it works on Instagram, which is also owned by Meta.
According to WABetaInfo, this new feature is in the developing stage and not even available to beta testers using Apple’s TestFlight program. It is rumored to be rolling out to more WhatsApp for iOS beta users in the coming weeks.
As per the report, the music shared on status updates will be end-to-end encrypted which means only intended recipients can view it. Earlier this month a similar feature was spotted to be in development for Android. It was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.8.3, available through the Google Play Beta Program.
