WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that may provide Android users more control over video calls.
The feature was discovered by Android Authority in the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.7.3 for Android during an APK teardown. WhatsApp is testing an option that allows users to turn off their camera before answering a video call. It is not available to the public yet, but somehow the publication managed to activate it by tinkering with the app.
As per the report of Android Authority, the feature adds an option dubbed ‘Turn off your video’ when receiving a video call, which will let users disable their camera before answering the video call. This means the call will start in voice-only mode instead of video.
If the camera is already off, WhatsApp may show an ‘Accept without video’ prompt for confirmation. As per the report, users will also have the option to turn on their camera anytime during the call using the ‘Turn on your video’ option.
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to turn off their video only after picking the call, not before. But this new feature will work similarly to Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other video-calling apps, giving users more control over their video calls.
