Grok, developed by Elon Musk-owned artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI, will soon be available as a standalone app for Android users. The app is listed on the Google Play Store. However, it is not available for download yet, but users can pre-register for it.
This follows a brief beta testing period in which some users had access to the app. xAI hasn’t announced the official launch date for the Android app yet.
After launching Grok’s app for iPhones, xAI seems ready to launch an Android version of its AI chatbot. An xAI engineer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm the Android version of the app.
In the post, the xAI engineer, Attila, says, “The Grok Android app is now open for testing in Australia, Canada, India, Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.”

The app is free and doesn’t require sign-in to access its features. However, users need to sign in if they wish to connect the AI to their X account or want a personalized experience.
Grok’s iOS app allows users to sign in with their Apple accounts. Similarly, Android users may be able to sign in using their Google accounts. In comparison, the web version of the chatbot requires users to sign in to use it.
Just like its iOS version, Grok’s Android app is expected to offer features like text responses, image generation, and real-time updates from X. However, it still remains unclear if it will support web search-based queries. It said that the app will be powered by the Grok 2 AI model. This is the same large language model (LLM) used in free and premium web versions.
