The India price for an inner display repair is half the cost of a new 256GB iPhone Duo, which sells for Rs 2,99,900. The “other damage” fee, which covers bigger repairs that are not on the list, is about 75% of the phone’s price.

Why is the iPhone Duo inner screen so expensive to repair?

The 7.6-inch inner display is a flexible OLED panel that folds in half. It has ProMotion up to 120Hz, a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a nano-texture finish to cut glare. Apple also places a thin cover layer on top of it, which works like a factory-fitted screen protector.

Folding panels cost more to make than flat glass screens and are fitted along with parts of the hinge area. That is why the inner display alone costs more than double the outer screen. If only the top cover layer gets scratched or peels, Apple can replace that layer for Rs 5,900 ($49) without changing the full display.

Apple has not listed a separate price for the hinge. The hinge uses more than 100 parts, according to Apple. Any repair that is not in the table above is likely to be charged at the “other damage” rate of Rs 2,24,900, though Apple has not confirmed which category hinge faults fall under.

AppleCare+ brings the iPhone Duo repair cost in India down sharply. You still pay a service fee for each accidental damage claim, but it is a small part of the full price.

In India, AppleCare+ for the iPhone Duo costs Rs 51,900, as per reports citing Apple’s India pricing. In the US it costs $19.99 a month, $199.99 a year or $399 for a fixed term. You can usually add AppleCare+ within 60 days of buying the phone, after a check of the device.

Is AppleCare+ worth it for the iPhone Duo?

The maths is simple. One out-of-warranty inner display repair costs Rs 1,49,900. AppleCare+ plus one inner display claim costs Rs 60,800 (Rs 51,900 plus Rs 8,900). Even a single accident on the main screen makes the plan worth more than it costs.

• Keep the fold clean: Close the phone only when there is nothing on the inner screen. A grain of sand or a SIM tool can leave a mark on a folding display.
• Do not peel the cover layer: The inner screen layer is part of the display. Removing it can damage the panel. If it lifts, get the Rs 5,900 cover layer replacement done.
• Avoid sharp pressure: Do not press hard on the inner screen with a fingernail or pen. Wait for the Apple Pencil (USB-C) support Apple has promised for later in 2026.
• Buy AppleCare+ early: The 60-day window is easy to miss.
