Apple has confirmed that the company will launch a new MacBook Air M4 this week. The announcement was made on social media on Monday.
Apple CEO Tim Cook shared a teaser on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a caption “This week”. This suggests that the new MacBook Air with an M4 chip is expected to launch soon.
It is said that it will retain the same design as the current generation model, but comes with the new processor. The new MacBook Air M4 is said to debut in two sizes—13-inch and 15-inch—codenamed J713 and J715. It is likely to feature the same Liquid Retina screen, but Apple might add a nano-texture coating, like in the MacBook Pro (M4, 2024). The new MacBook Air M4 is expected to get an upgrade from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 4 ports for better connectivity.
It is said that it will support Apple Intelligence. It might offer a minimum of 8GB RAM, the requirements set by the iPhone maker to run the AI suite.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first reported the rumored chip upgrade in October 2024. Last week, he also revealed the launch timeline. After this launch, Apple is expected to introduce an M4-powered Mac Studio, codenamed J575, which may arrive between March and June. There is no update from Apple on whether the company will launch a Mac Pro with an M4 chip. However, the company might share more details after the MacBook Air M4 is released.
