MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 8400, world’s first upper-midrange Android chipset with an all big-core CPU design. The new Dimensity 8400 is an upgrade to last year’s Dimensity 8300.
It will feature an ‘all big core’ design like the high-end Dimensity 9400, which means that it doesn’t include the smaller energy-efficient cores.
MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Key Specifications
It comes with eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores. One core runs at 3.25GHz, three at 3.0GHz, and the other four at 2.1GHz. As per the MediaTek claims, this offers 41% better multi-core performance and uses 44% less power compared to the Dimensity 8300. It has a 1.3GHz ARM Mali-G720 MC6 GPU. This GPU works with MediaTek’s Frame Rate Converter and Adaptive Gaming Technology, which offer smoother and better gameplay.
The processor is equipped with MediaTek’s NPU 880, which supports AI models for the latest Gen-AI applications. It comes with AI-powered features such as rewriting, smart replies, media creation, AI recording, and translation. Smartphones with Dimensity 8400 can support WQHD+ resolution up to 144Hz and dual display. For connectivity, the processor features a 5G-Advanced modem with peak download speeds of up to 5.17Gbps.
The first smartphone powered by Dimensity 8400 will debut on the market by the end of 2024. The upcoming smartphone, Redmi Turbo 4, will be the first phone powered by the Dimensity 8400 chipset, as per the post shared by Xiaomi on Weibo.
