The iPhone 16 series was launched earlier this month and it is set to be available in stores from 20 Sep’24 onwards. Though Apple smartphone launches have always garnered a lot of attention globally, the recent launch has become the most talked about due to its ‘Make In India’ factor.
The Indian Government had been in talks with the tech giants to choose India as their manufacturing hub. Apple had been always inclined towards China for its production, however, due to fruitful diplomatic talks, the iPhone 16 series has been produced and assembled in India.
This has allowed Indian buyers to not wait days and months after the global launch but to buy the smartphone simultaneously. These new iPhones will be available at Apple’s retail locations, like Apple BKC in Mumbai and Apple Saket in New Delhi, as well as online and through other authorized sellers.
According to Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak, pre-orders for the base iPhone 16 model are significantly higher than last year due to the price competitiveness when compared with the 15 series.
The financing options are also very attractive and for the latest iPhone 16. Pathak believes that the 16 series pre-orders are set to break all previous records.
As per reports, in this fiscal year, from April to August, Apple’s exports from India reached about $5 billion. This marks a 50% growth for the company when compared to the same period last year.
Prabhu Ram, VP-Industry Research Group, CyberMedia Research (CMR), told IANS ‘The Premiumization wave in the Indian smartphone market continues to gain momentum.’
As per industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 16’s first-weekend pre-order sales are estimated to reach about 37 million units. Apple’s revenue in India is likely to grow by 18 percent as compared to the previous year and is expected to cross the $10 billion mark in 2025 in the country.
